Baby D with 4 weeks to go

Hello there chubby cheeks! We can't wait to meet you.

I'm putting my tray in the upright position.

It’s interesting how time seems to expand and contract whenever you have a huge event that’s coming up in your life. Sometimes it seems like time is flying by and the event is going to be here before you’re even ready for it, and sometimes it seems like time is slowly grinding by and that light at the end of the tunnel just isn’t getting any closer.

Comparing having a child with anything else I’ve ever experienced is hard to do, but regardless, I keep comparing it to going on a flight to your dream vacation. I suppose that’s just how my brain works, always having the need to reference something uknown against something tangible, even if the scale is completely disproportional.

Like any dream getaway, there was a lot of planning at first, and the act of planning was in itself plenty to keep us occupied. Do we want to know if it’s a boy or girl? When can we tell our family and friends? What doctor are we going to use? What hospital? When do we tell our employers? The list was extensive.

But now, we’ve entered into the ‘Hurry up and wait’ phase it would seem. There’s not a whole lot for us to do, until the arrival date gets closer. The room is ready, the How-To classes are either booked or have already been taken, and the names have been narrowed down. I feel like our plane isn’t cleared to land yet, and we’re circling overhead waiting for the runway to free up. I can see our destination down there, and it looks amazing, but we can’t quite get there yet.

That’s not to say that being in this holding pattern isn’t exciting. I’m still learning something new every day about pregnancy. Some of it I wanted to know, some of it I didn’t, and some of it in some gray area in-between.
They say the journey is just as important as the destination. Well, our flight’s been on time, fairly smooth, and one hell of an experience, but I know this flight is going to flip that old proverb on it’s ear, because this destination is going to be absolutely amazing. I’m ready to land.

The Happiest Place on Earth

You can ask Gene. I'm obsessed with the nursery being the happiest place on earth for Baby D. Bright cheery colors galore. Here's a quick run down of what we've got so far.

Gene found a sweet deal on a rug (visible in the background of several photos).
Chris, Gene's mom, made these fabulous curtains. Happy Hippos are from Ikea.

I found an awesome deal on the mid-century modern dressers. Just repainted the knobs.

I love the leaping fish mobile. (Ikea strikes again).

You can see the little giraffe enjoying those chipper orange sheets.

Skip Hop lamp ties all the colors together.

And last, but not least, is a photo of Jemaine, the giraffe. He's eagerly awaiting Baby D's arrival. He usually sleeps with me.

Funny Coworkers

Well, it seems like PUNCH is going to throw a shower for Stephanie (the other pregnant girl in the office) and me. Super cool of them - I can't wait!

Best of all is this invite that Sarah made - funny stuff. The images go backwards, but you get the point.

Comfy

I'll take one of these please in adult size...and minus the straps.

orange obsessed

You can ask Gene. I'm obsessed with having orange sheets. So, I finally broke down and ordered them this weekend and they have arrived!

I'm totally in love. And am mostly happy I don't have to stalk orange sheets online any more. They are much harder to find than you'd think. I mean, who doesn't love orange?!

Sheets are by Litto Kids.

Nursery in progress

Well, we just got our curtains up. Thank you to Chris, Gene's mom, for making such fabulous curtains. They are red w/ many white hippos all over them. Totally in love w/ them. The rest of the room will be pretty neutral to balance out the bright redness of the curtains.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where to find a nice tan/light brown rug? Nothing fancy, just soft enough to sit on the floor when Baby D is in play mode.

Baby blue and orange is the only theme we're going for. We have baby blue shelves in the room. And I'm trying to register for all things baby blue and orange. Blair - I owe this to you - changing my hatred of orange into a love of it. But, orange baby stuff is harder to find that you'd think. Hmpf.

Will take pics of curtains and post later.

Rambling for today. Complete.

I will start blogging soon.

Yes, I will do this. Trying to figure out the best way to edit these.

First day blogging

Ok, we got our ultrasound done today. Baby D is adorable. We did not find out the gender.

I swear these posts will get more interesting as I get the hang of this.

Oh, and once I scan in our baby photos, we'll get those up on here for all to view the awesomeness that is our child.
